Your Smile, Designed Before It Is Built

A smile makeover is one of the most personal decisions in dentistry — you are changing something that defines how you present yourself to the world. At The Smile Edit in Kalyan Nagar, we believe that decision should never be a leap of faith. That is why every smile design at our clinic begins with Digital Smile Design (DSD): a detailed digital mockup of your new smile, followed by a real-life Smile Test Drive, before a single tooth is touched.

The result is E.max or Zirconia porcelain veneers — ultra-thin ceramic shells bonded to the front of your teeth — that are crafted to a design you have already seen, trialled, and approved. Our patients tell us the Test Drive alone is worth the consultation.

What Are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are ultra-thin shells of high-strength ceramic — either E.max (lithium disilicate) or Zirconia — that are bonded permanently to the front surface of your teeth. They are custom-made to the exact shape, shade, and proportions you and Dr. Amrita agree on during the design phase.

Because they cover only the front face of the tooth, veneers require removing just 0.3–0.5mm of enamel — a fraction of what a crown requires. This makes them the ideal cosmetic solution when your teeth are structurally healthy but you want to change their colour, shape, size, or overall harmony.

What veneers can correct

  • Permanent discolouration that does not respond to whitening (tetracycline stains, fluorosis, internal discolouration)
  • Chipped, cracked, or mildly worn teeth
  • Gaps between front teeth (diastema closure)
  • Teeth that are slightly too small, uneven, or misshapen
  • Minor crowding where orthodontics is not desired
  • Old composite bondings that have stained or worn
  • Smile that looks "incomplete" or lacks symmetry

💡 Not every case needs veneers on all teeth. Some patients need just 2–4 veneers on the most visible teeth; others opt for a full 6–10 tooth makeover. During your consultation, Dr. Amrita will map out the minimum number of teeth needed to achieve the result you want.

The Digital Smile Design Process

Dr. Amrita Singh is certified in Digital Smile Design (DSD) — a systematic, science-backed planning protocol that ensures your veneers are designed around your face, your lips, and your unique facial proportions, not just your teeth in isolation. Here is how the process works at The Smile Edit:

  1. Digital Consultation & Smile Assessment

We begin with high-resolution photographs of your face and smile from multiple angles, along with shade mapping and a detailed discussion of what you want to change. These images are sent to our specialist lab in Bangalore along with your goals — shape, length, shade, and how the smile should frame your face.

  2. Digital Mockup — See Your Smile Before It Exists

Our lab creates a precise digital mockup of your proposed new smile, overlaid on photographs of your actual face. You will see exactly what your smile will look like — the tooth shape, size, and shade — on your own face, before any treatment begins. Adjustments can be requested at this stage at no extra charge.

  3. Smile Test Drive — Trial Your New Smile in Real Life

This is the step that sets The Smile Edit apart. Based on the approved digital design, our lab fabricates a temporary trial smile — temporary composite veneers (chairside 3M Protemp) placed directly over your existing teeth (no preparation, no drilling) so you can see, feel, and wear your new smile in the real world. Walk around with it. Show your family. Smile at the mirror. Only once you are fully satisfied do we move to the final step.

We also offer an upgrade to lab-fabricated temporaries for patients who need more time with their trial smile — for instance if you are travelling, have a long gap before your final appointment, or simply want to trial the smile for an extended period. Lab temporaries are more aesthetic, stronger, and significantly more durable than chairside composites, making them the better choice when you need your test drive to last weeks or months rather than days.

Digital Smile Design + Test Drive starts at ₹6,000. This fee is fully adjusted against the cost of your final veneers when you proceed — so the planning process costs you nothing extra.

  4. Minimal Tooth Preparation

Once you have approved the Test Drive design, the teeth are gently prepared under local anaesthesia — removing only 0.3–0.5mm of enamel from the front surface. A precise digital impression is taken and sent to our lab, along with the approved design, for fabrication of the final veneers.

  5. Final Veneers — Bonded & Perfected

Your finished E.max or Zirconia veneers return from the lab, are tried in for colour and fit, and then bonded permanently using a strong dental adhesive. The result is a smile that matches exactly what you approved in the Test Drive — refined, natural, and built to last.

Why the Smile Test Drive Is the Most Important Step

Most dental clinics design your veneers on a screen, then build and bond them in one go. If you do not love the result, it is already permanent. The Smile Test Drive exists precisely to eliminate that risk.

Six things the Test Drive gives you that no digital image can

  • Real-world appearance in all lighting — clinic lighting, natural daylight, evening light, and flash photography all look different. The Test Drive lets you assess your new smile in every condition, not just on a screen.
  • The feel and function — you will notice immediately if a tooth feels too long, too prominent, or unnatural to bite with. Adjustments at this stage cost nothing; adjustments after final bonding are far more complex.
  • Third-party opinion — you can share your smile with family, friends, and colleagues and get honest feedback before committing. Many patients find that the people closest to them confirm the design is exactly right; a few request minor tweaks. Both outcomes are valuable.
  • Confidence in the investment — veneers are a significant investment. The Test Drive means you are spending ₹15,000 per tooth knowing precisely what you are getting, not hoping for the best.
  • No permanent tooth preparation yet — the Test Drive is placed without drilling. If you wanted to stop at this stage (unlikely, but possible), your natural teeth are completely unchanged.
  • Fine-tuning is easy — we can adjust tooth length, shape, or shade during the Test Drive phase with minimal effort. Once final veneers are placed, changes are far more involved.

💡 The Test Drive fee (from ₹6,000) is not an extra cost — it is adjusted against your final veneer bill. Think of it as the planning fee that ensures your veneers are exactly right, paid back in full when you proceed with treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions our Bangalore patients ask most often about smile design and veneers. If yours is not here, WhatsApp us — we are happy to answer anything in detail.

  • What are dental veneers?
Dental veneers are ultra-thin shells of E.max (lithium disilicate) or Zirconia ceramic that are bonded to the front surface of your teeth to improve their shape, colour, size, and overall appearance. They are one of the most effective cosmetic dentistry treatments because they deliver dramatic, natural-looking results while removing only a minimal amount of tooth enamel — typically just 0.3–0.5mm.
  • What is Digital Smile Design (DSD)?
Digital Smile Design is a planning protocol where photographs and measurements of your face, lips, and teeth are used to digitally design your ideal smile before any treatment begins. At The Smile Edit, our lab prepares a detailed digital mockup that shows you exactly what your new smile will look like. Dr. Amrita Singh is certified in Digital Smile Design — one of a small number of dentists in Bangalore with this qualification.
  • What is a Smile Test Drive and why is it important?
A Smile Test Drive involves placing temporary veneers on your teeth — without any permanent preparation — so you can actually see, feel, and live with your new smile before committing. You can check the shape, length, and look in different lighting conditions, get feedback from family and friends, and request adjustments. No other step gives you more confidence that the final result is exactly what you want. The Test Drive is included in our Digital Smile Design package from ₹6,000, which is fully adjusted against your final veneer cost.
  • How long do veneers last?
With proper care, E.max veneers typically last 15–20 years and Zirconia veneers can last 20+ years. Longevity depends on your oral hygiene, whether you avoid biting hard objects (ice, pen caps, fingernails), and whether you wear a night guard if you grind your teeth. Most patients go a decade or more before any replacement is needed.
  • What is the difference between a veneer and a crown?
A veneer covers only the front surface of a tooth and requires removing just 0.3–0.5mm of enamel. A crown covers the entire tooth and requires removing 1.5–2mm of enamel all around. Veneers are the right choice when the tooth is structurally healthy and the concern is primarily cosmetic. Crowns are recommended when a tooth is significantly damaged, weakened, or has had a root canal. We will always recommend the most conservative option that achieves your goal.
  • Are veneers painful to get?
No. The tooth preparation is minimal (0.3–0.5mm) and done under local anaesthesia where needed. Some patients experience mild sensitivity between the preparation appointment and the final bonding appointment — this settles quickly once the veneers are permanently placed.
  • Can I whiten my teeth after getting veneers?
Whitening agents do not affect ceramic veneers — the veneer shade is permanent and will not change with whitening. If you are considering both whitening and veneers, we recommend whitening your natural teeth first, then shade-matching the veneers to your new brighter colour for the best overall result.
  • Who is a good candidate for veneers?
Veneers are ideal for teeth that are permanently discoloured (unresponsive to whitening), chipped or mildly worn, slightly uneven in shape or size, have small gaps between them, or have old stained bondings. Veneers are not recommended for teeth with insufficient enamel, severe structural damage (a crown is better), or untreated active decay. Grinding can often be managed with a night guard, allowing veneers to proceed.
  • How do I maintain my veneers?
Brush twice daily with a non-abrasive toothpaste, floss daily (a water flosser works well around veneers), avoid biting hard objects like ice or pen caps, wear a night guard if you grind, and attend 6-monthly check-ups. Professional cleaning with an air polisher at The Smile Edit is safe on veneers and keeps them looking their best.
  • How much do veneers cost in Bangalore?
At The Smile Edit in Kalyan Nagar, veneers start from ₹15,000 per tooth in E.max or Zirconia. A full smile makeover covering 6–8 front teeth typically starts from ₹90,000. Our Digital Smile Design + Test Drive consultation starts at ₹6,000, which is fully adjusted against your final veneer cost when you proceed — so you pay nothing extra for the planning process.
