Types of Braces & Aligners

From traditional metal brackets to virtually invisible aligner trays, each system has its strengths. Here is a clear overview of every option we offer — so you can make an informed decision.

Conventional metal braces

Most Affordable

Conventional Metal Braces

The original — and still highly effective. Small metal brackets are bonded to each tooth and connected by a metal archwire. Elastic ties (ligatures) hold the wire in place and can be changed to coloured bands, which many younger patients enjoy.

  • From ₹45,000
  • Most cost-effective orthodontic option
  • Suitable for all ages and complexity levels
  • Highly durable — less likely to break
  • Requires regular tightening appointments every 4-6 weeks
Self-ligating metal braces — Damon and 3M

Self-Ligating Metal Braces

A significant upgrade on conventional metal. Instead of elastic ties, each bracket has a built-in sliding clip — reducing friction, requiring fewer adjustments, and producing results faster. We offer premium brands Damon and 3M.

  • From ₹65,000 (Damon / 3M)
  • Lower friction = more comfortable tooth movement
  • Fewer clinic visits than conventional braces
  • Available in Damon and 3M brands
  • Recommended for most cases requiring fixed braces
Ceramic self-ligating tooth-coloured braces — Damon and 3M

Discreet & Premium

Ceramic Self-Ligating Braces

Tooth-coloured ceramic brackets with the self-ligating clip mechanism — combining the discretion of ceramic with the efficiency of self-ligating technology. Available in premium Damon and 3M brands. The most discreet fixed brace option we offer.

  • From ₹75,000 (Damon / 3M)
  • Much less noticeable than metal braces
  • Self-ligating — lower friction, fewer visits
  • Same clinical effectiveness as metal
  • Popular with working adults and professionals
Invisalign clear aligners

Invisalign

Invisalign Clear Aligners

The world's #1 clear aligner system — virtually invisible, removable, and custom-fabricated from the USA. Over 15 million patients treated globally. Each aligner tray is replaced every 1-2 weeks, gently moving teeth in precise increments. You remove them to eat, drink, and clean your teeth.

  • Essential / Go from ₹1,20,000
  • Go Plus from ₹1,80,000
  • Comprehensive — custom quote
  • Near-invisible — virtually undetectable when worn
  • Custom-made in the USA · Authorised Provider
Illusion and Dentcare clear aligners

Indian Clear Aligners

Illusion / Dentcare Clear Aligners

We offer two trusted Indian clear aligner brands — Illusion and Dentcare — as practical, effective alternatives to Invisalign for mild-to-moderate cases. Clear, removable, and comfortable, with pricing comparable to each other at a more accessible price point than Invisalign.

  • From ₹90,000
  • Illusion & Dentcare — two trusted Indian aligner brands
  • Good for mild to moderate crowding / spacing
  • Clear and removable — comfortable to wear
  • More affordable than Invisalign
  • Not suitable for complex orthodontic cases

Authorised Invisalign Provider

Invisalign — The Clear Aligner the World Trusts

Invisalign is the most clinically proven, globally trusted clear aligner system in the world — with over 15 million patients treated across more than 100 countries since its launch in 1999. The Smile Edit is an authorised Invisalign provider, which means we have the certified training and access to Align Technology's full range of Invisalign products.

Do You Need Orthodontic Treatment?

Orthodontic treatment corrects alignment issues with teeth and the bite. You may benefit from braces or aligners if you have any of the following:

  • Crowded teeth — teeth that overlap, twist, or have no room to sit in the correct position
  • Gaps or spaces between teeth
  • An overbite — upper front teeth overlapping too far over the lower teeth
  • An underbite — lower teeth sit in front of upper teeth when biting
  • A crossbite — upper and lower teeth meeting incorrectly on one or both sides
  • An open bite — front teeth that do not meet at all when back teeth are closed
  • Teeth that are visibly out of line when you smile
  • Difficulty chewing or biting due to misaligned teeth
  • Jaw pain or TMJ issues linked to a bite problem
  • Completing other dental treatment — straight teeth make implants, veneers, and crowns last longer

👉 You are never too old for orthodontic treatment. While the best time to start is during adolescence, we treat a significant number of adults successfully. Clear aligners in particular are designed with adult patients in mind.

What to Expect — Your Orthodontic Journey

Orthodontic treatment is a commitment — but we make it as smooth and informed as possible. Here is how the process works at The Smile Edit.

  1. Initial Consultation & Orthodontic Assessment

A thorough clinical examination, digital photographs, and X-rays (OPG and lateral cephalogram) to assess your teeth, bite, and jaw. Our visiting specialist orthodontist will assess your case and present the treatment options suitable for you. Dr. Amrita will also be present to discuss your goals and concerns. You receive a clear treatment plan and written quote.

  2. Treatment Planning

For braces, the orthodontist plans the sequence of archwires and tooth movements. For Invisalign and clear aligners, a digital 3D scan is taken and the full course of aligner trays is designed using ClinCheck software. You can review and approve your projected final smile before anything is made.

  3. Braces Fitting or Aligner Delivery

For fixed braces — brackets are bonded to the teeth using a dental adhesive. A wire is threaded through. This takes about 1-2 hours and is not painful. For clear aligners — your custom tray set arrives from the lab and your first set of aligners is fitted and explained in detail.

  4. Regular Review Appointments

Fixed brace patients return every 4-8 weeks for wire changes and adjustments. Clear aligner patients return every 6-8 weeks to collect new sets of trays and for the orthodontist to check progress. Dr. Amrita personally reviews your case at each visit to ensure treatment is on track.

  5. Brace Removal / Aligner Completion

When your teeth have reached their target positions, the braces are removed (a comfortable, quick process) or your aligner course is complete. We take a fresh set of photos and compare them with your Day 1 records — the transformation is always rewarding to see.

  6. Retention — Protecting Your Result

This is the most important phase most patients underestimate. After active treatment, a retainer is fitted — either a fixed wire bonded behind the teeth or a removable retainer — to hold your teeth in their new positions. Teeth have a natural memory and will shift back without retention. We recommend wearing retainers for a minimum of 12 months, often longer.

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions our patients in Kalyan Nagar and Bangalore ask most about orthodontic treatment. If yours is not here, WhatsApp us anytime.

  • How much do braces cost at The Smile Edit?
Conventional metal braces start at ₹45,000. Self-ligating metal braces (Damon / 3M) start at ₹65,000, and ceramic self-ligating braces (Damon / 3M) at ₹75,000. For clear aligners, Illusion Aligners start at ₹90,000. Invisalign packages start at ₹1,20,000 (Essential/Go), ₹1,80,000 (Go Plus), and Comprehensive is priced on a custom quote basis. The final cost depends on the brand and the complexity of your case. We provide a transparent written treatment plan and quote before starting — no surprise costs.
  • Who will be doing my orthodontic treatment?
Your orthodontic treatment is carried out by a visiting specialist orthodontist — a dentist with advanced post-graduate specialisation in orthodontics and extensive years of clinical experience. Dr. Amrita Singh personally oversees your treatment throughout its entire duration, ensuring the same quality standard The Smile Edit is known for.
  • What types of braces are available?
We offer conventional metal braces, self-ligating metal braces (including 3M), ceramic (tooth-coloured) braces, and clear aligners including Invisalign and Illusion Aligners. Each has different aesthetics, comfort levels, treatment times, and costs. We will help you choose the right option during your consultation.
  • What is the difference between conventional and self-ligating braces?
Conventional braces use small elastic ties (ligatures) to hold the wire to each bracket. Self-ligating braces have a built-in clip mechanism instead, which reduces friction, often requires fewer adjustments, and can make treatment slightly faster and more comfortable. Self-ligating braces are available in both metal and ceramic.
  • How long does orthodontic treatment take?
Treatment duration depends on the complexity of your case. Mild crowding or spacing cases can be resolved in 6-12 months. Moderate cases typically take 12-18 months. Complex cases may take 18-24 months or longer. Clear aligners for mild cases can sometimes be faster.
  • Is Invisalign available at The Smile Edit?
Yes. The Smile Edit is an authorised Invisalign provider. Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable, custom-fabricated aligners made in the USA to gradually straighten your teeth. The basic Invisalign package starts at ₹1,20,000.
  • What is the difference between Invisalign and other clear aligners?
Invisalign is the world's most trusted clear aligner system, backed by over 25 years of clinical research and used to treat more than 15 million patients globally. Each set of Invisalign aligners is custom-fabricated using SmartTrack material at Align Technology's facility in the USA, ensuring precision, consistency, and fit. Other clear aligner brands such as Illusion and Dentcare Aligners are also effective, especially for milder cases, and tend to be more affordable.
  • Is orthodontic treatment painful?
Orthodontic treatment is not painful in the way a dental procedure is, but you will feel pressure and soreness for 2-5 days after each adjustment or aligner change as your teeth adjust. This is normal and is a sign that treatment is working. Over-the-counter pain relief helps during this period.
  • Can adults get braces or aligners?
Absolutely. Orthodontic treatment is highly effective for adults — there is no age limit. Clear aligners are particularly popular among adults due to their near-invisibility. Many of our patients are adults who want to correct alignment they have been self-conscious about for years.
  • Do I need to wear a retainer after braces?
Yes, and this is one of the most important parts of the whole process. After your braces or aligner course ends, your teeth have a natural tendency to shift back. Retainers — either a fixed wire bonded behind the teeth or a removable retainer — maintain your results. We recommend wearing retainers for a minimum of 12 months, and many patients choose to wear them indefinitely.
  • How do I maintain oral hygiene with braces?
With fixed braces, brush after every meal using a small brush at a 45° angle around each bracket. Use interdental brushes or a water flosser to clean between teeth. With clear aligners, remove them to eat, brush and floss as normal, and rinse the aligner before reinserting.
