Strong, Natural-Looking Tooth Restoration

A damaged, decayed, or root-canal-treated tooth often needs more than a filling — it needs full coverage to restore strength, function, and natural appearance. Dental crowns (also called caps) do exactly that, encasing the entire visible portion of the tooth above the gum line.

At The Smile Edit in Kalyan Nagar, we offer the full range of crown materials — from time-tested PFM crowns to premium Zirconia, E.max, and 3M-branded options — so we can match the right material to your specific tooth, budget, and aesthetic goals.

What Are Dental Crowns?

A dental crown is a custom-made covering — sometimes called a "cap" — that completely encases a damaged tooth above the gum line. Crowns are bonded onto your natural tooth (or onto a dental implant) and become a permanent part of your bite.

Made from materials chosen to balance aesthetics, durability, and budget, a properly placed crown restores:

  • Strength — protects a weak tooth from fracturing
  • Shape — rebuilds a chipped, broken, or worn-down tooth
  • Function — restores normal chewing and biting
  • Appearance — natural colour, shape, and translucency

👉 A well-placed crown can last 10-25 years or longer — making it one of the most reliable, cost-effective restorations in modern dentistry.

When Do You Need a Dental Crown?

You may need a dental crown if you have:

  • A tooth that has had root canal treatment (essential for back teeth)
  • A cracked, chipped, or broken tooth
  • A large cavity that is too big for a filling to repair
  • A severely worn-down or eroded tooth
  • A discoloured or misshapen tooth needing cosmetic improvement
  • A dental implant that needs its final tooth-coloured cap
  • An anchor tooth supporting a dental bridge
  • Extensive tooth wear from grinding (bruxism)

👉 Not every damaged tooth needs a crown — sometimes a high-quality filling is sufficient. We will tell you honestly which option is right for your specific case during your consultation.

Travel Worry-Free with Our Pan-India Warranty

This is something most clinics in Bangalore do not offer — and one of the biggest reasons patients choose us for crown work.

We partner with the top dental laboratories in India. Every crown we place comes with a warranty period (which varies by material tier and the warranty option you choose).

What this means for you

If your crown is damaged, fractured, or fails for any reason during the warranty period — and you are travelling, have relocated, or simply cannot make it back to our clinic in Kalyan Nagar — you can get it replaced at most of the reputed dental clinics in the country, almost free of cost. The lab honours the warranty regardless of where you are.

The only thing you pay is a small fee for scanning and fitting at the other clinic — typically ₹500-1,500 depending on the location.

💡 This matters most for:

  • Patients who travel frequently for work
  • Bangalore residents who relocate to other cities
  • NRI patients who visit family in India
  • Patients who come to Bangalore from Tier-2/3 cities specifically for premium crown work

You get top-tier crowns done here, with nationwide protection — wherever life takes you.

Dental Crown Cost in Bangalore

At The Smile Edit, dental crowns start from ₹5,000 per crown for our PFM tier. Pricing for premium materials varies based on the material chosen and the warranty period you opt for — different tiers come with different warranty lengths.

Important: Crown pricing depends on three things — the material (PFM, Zirconia, E.max, etc.), the brand (generic vs branded like 3M), and the warranty period you choose. Crowns for dental implants are priced separately from crowns on natural teeth.

PFM Crown 5-year warranty From ₹5,000
Zirconia Crown 10-year warranty From ₹10,000
E.max Crown 5-year warranty From ₹12,000
DMLS Crown 10-year warranty From ₹6,000
3M Branded Crown 10-year warranty From ₹15,000
Crown for Dental Implant Screw-retained · 10-year warranty From ₹10,000

EMI options available across all major treatments. Final pricing is provided in writing after your consultation — no hidden costs, no surprises.

Steps for Getting a Dental Crown

The full process is typically completed in 2 visits over 1-2 weeks. Here is what to expect:

  1. Consultation & Assessment

Clinical examination, dental X-ray if needed, and an honest discussion about whether a crown is the right option for your tooth. You receive a clear treatment plan and transparent written quote before any procedure begins.

  2. Tooth Preparation

Under local anaesthesia, we gently shape the tooth to receive the crown. Any old fillings or decay are removed and the tooth is contoured for an ideal crown fit.

  3. CAD/CAM Digital Impression & Shade Match

A precise digital scan of your tooth (and the surrounding teeth) is captured using a CAD/CAM workflow and sent to our partner lab. The digital impression eliminates the distortion of traditional putty impressions, producing a crown that fits perfectly the first time. We carefully match the colour to your existing teeth for a natural blend.

  4. Temporary Crown

A temporary crown is placed to protect your prepared tooth while the permanent crown is being fabricated in the lab over 5-10 days.

  5. Permanent Crown Placement

At the second visit, the permanent crown is checked for fit, colour, and bite, then bonded onto your tooth using strong dental adhesive. You leave with a fully restored tooth.

👉 Most patients return to normal eating and routine immediately after each visit. Mild sensitivity for 1-2 days is normal.

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions our Bangalore patients ask most often about dental crowns. If yours is not here, WhatsApp us — we are happy to explain anything in detail.

  • What is a dental crown?
A dental crown (sometimes called a dental cap) is a custom-made covering that completely encases a damaged tooth above the gum line. It restores the tooth's shape, size, strength, and natural appearance, and is bonded onto your tooth as a permanent restoration.
  • How long do dental crowns last?
With proper care, modern dental crowns typically last 10-25 years or more. Premium materials like Zirconia and E.max often last longer than PFM. Longevity depends on oral hygiene, bite forces, and avoiding habits like grinding or biting hard objects.
  • Is getting a dental crown painful?
No. The crown procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, so you will not feel pain during tooth preparation or fitting. Most patients report mild sensitivity for a day or two after the procedure, easily managed with standard pain relief.
  • How many visits are needed for a dental crown?
Typically 2 visits over 1-2 weeks. The first visit involves tooth preparation, digital impression, and placement of a temporary crown. The second visit involves fitting and bonding the permanent crown made in the lab.
  • Can I eat normally with a dental crown?
Yes. Once your permanent crown is placed and the anaesthesia has worn off, you can eat normally. We recommend avoiding very hard foods (ice, hard nuts, bone) on the crowned tooth to maximise its lifespan.
  • What is the difference between PFM, Zirconia, and E.max crowns?
PFM (Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal) is durable and budget-friendly but slightly less aesthetic for front teeth due to the metal underlay. Zirconia is extremely strong, tooth-coloured, and ideal for back teeth. E.max (lithium disilicate) offers the best aesthetics — ideal for front teeth — with very natural translucency.
  • What if my crown breaks or chips after a few years?
Our crowns come with a warranty period that varies by material tier. We partner with the best dental labs in India, which means if your crown is damaged during the warranty period, you can get it replaced at most of the reputed dental clinics in the country — almost free of cost. You only pay minimal fees for scanning and fitting at the other clinic. Ideal for patients who travel or relocate.
  • Can I get a dental crown without a root canal?
Yes. Crowns are commonly placed on teeth that have not had root canal treatment — for cracked, broken, severely worn, or cosmetically compromised teeth. Root canal is only needed if the tooth's nerve is infected or damaged.
  • Are crowns for dental implants different?
Yes. Implant crowns are designed and priced differently from crowns placed on natural teeth. They attach to the implant abutment rather than being bonded to a prepared natural tooth, and require specialised lab work.
  • Does insurance cover dental crowns?
Some health insurance plans cover crowns, particularly when medically necessary (after a root canal, for example). Coverage varies widely. We can provide the documentation needed for insurance claims, and EMI options are available for out-of-pocket payments.
  • Do you offer same-day crowns (like CEREC)?
We use a 2-visit lab-fabricated approach because it produces higher-quality crowns with better fit, longer lifespan, and access to premium materials like Zirconia, E.max, DMLS, and 3M-branded crowns that are not possible with chair-side same-day systems. The slight wait between visits gives you a meaningfully better long-term result.
