Fixed, Natural-Looking Replacement for Missing Teeth

A dental bridge replaces one or more missing teeth with artificial teeth (called pontics) anchored to the natural teeth on either side of the gap. Unlike removable dentures, bridges are fixed in place — they look, feel, and function like natural teeth. They are an excellent option when implants are not viable, when you want a faster solution, or when the adjacent teeth already need crowns.

At The Smile Edit in Kalyan Nagar, we offer the full range of bridge options — from premium Zirconia and DMLS to specialist Maryland bridges for interim use during implant integration. Backed by the same Pan-India warranty as our crowns.

What Is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is a fixed prosthetic that closes the gap left by one or more missing teeth. It consists of:

  • Pontics — the artificial teeth that fill the gap
  • Anchor crowns (abutments) — crowns placed on the natural teeth on either side of the gap, supporting the pontic in between

The whole structure is fabricated as a single connected piece in a dental lab, then bonded permanently onto your prepared anchor teeth. Once placed, you can chew, speak, and smile as you would with natural teeth.

👉 Bridges sit between fillings and implants on the tooth-replacement spectrum. For some patients, a bridge is the right choice. For others, a dental implant is. We will tell you honestly which is best for your case.

When Do You Need a Dental Bridge?

You may be a candidate for a dental bridge if:

  • You have one or more missing teeth, with healthy teeth on either side of the gap
  • The adjacent teeth already need crowns (so the bridge integrates naturally)
  • You want a faster solution than implants (2 visits vs 4-6 months)
  • You have insufficient bone for implants and prefer not to undergo bone grafting
  • You want to fill a visible gap while a recently-placed implant integrates (Maryland bridge)
  • You want a fixed solution but are not a candidate for surgery
  • Your missing teeth are causing adjacent teeth to shift

Maryland Bridges — Bridging the Gap During Implant Healing

Maryland bridge — a conservative bridge bonded to the back of adjacent teeth, used as an interim solution while a dental implant integrates
A Maryland bridge bonded to the back of adjacent teeth — no tooth shaping required.

Most patients choosing a dental implant do not realise there is a 3-6 month "healing" gap between when the implant is placed and when the final crown can be fitted. During this period, the implant integrates with the jawbone (osseointegration) — and you would otherwise be left with a visible gap, especially noticeable on front teeth.

A Maryland bridge solves this beautifully. It is a conservative type of bridge that bonds to the back of adjacent teeth using thin wings — no tooth shaping required, no anchor crowns. It fills the visible gap throughout the healing period and is removed when your permanent implant crown is ready.

Two Maryland bridge options at The Smile Edit

  • Chair-side fabricated (Composite & Ribbond) — ₹8,000
Made and fitted in a single visit using composite material bonded to adjacent teeth. Immediate solution. Ideal when you need same-day cosmetic coverage.
  • Lab-fabricated Maryland (Zirconia) — ₹12,000
A more durable, more natural-looking Zirconia version made in our partner lab. Two visits. Better long-term aesthetics for visible front teeth.

💡 Why this matters: Most clinics either leave you with a visible gap during implant healing or offer a removable flipper denture. Maryland bridges are a meaningfully better cosmetic and comfort solution — especially for visible front teeth.

Dental Bridge Cost in Bangalore

Bridge pricing at The Smile Edit follows a transparent formula: for standard bridges, cost = number of teeth in the bridge × the price of a single crown. This means the more crown materials and the longer the span, the higher the cost — but it also means you can estimate your own quote before consultation using our crown pricing.

💡 Quick example. A standard 3-unit PFM bridge replacing one missing tooth = 2 anchor crowns + 1 pontic = 3 units × ₹5,000 (PFM crown rate) = ₹15,000 total. Same bridge in Zirconia = 3 × ₹10,000 = ₹30,000 total.

Standard Bridge (PFM, DMLS, Zirconia, Metal-Bar) Cost = number of teeth × single crown cost See Crown Pricing →
Maryland Bridge — Chair-side (Composite & Ribbond) Single visit · interim solution ₹8,000
Maryland Bridge — Lab Fabricated (Zirconia) Two visits · more durable interim ₹12,000

Standard bridges include the same Pan-India warranty as our dental crowns. Final pricing for complex or long-span cases provided in writing after consultation.

Steps for Getting a Dental Bridge

For a standard bridge, the full process is typically completed in 2 visits over 1-2 weeks:

  1. Consultation & Assessment

Clinical examination, dental X-ray, and an honest discussion about whether a bridge is the right option for your case — versus an implant or denture. You receive a clear treatment plan and transparent written quote before any procedure begins.

  2. Anchor Tooth Preparation

Under local anaesthesia, the natural teeth on either side of the gap are gently shaped to receive their crowns. (For Maryland bridges, this step is skipped entirely — no shaping needed.) For long-term stability and success, in some cases we recommend a planned root canal treatment on the anchor teeth — this prevents future complications and significantly extends the life of the bridge.

  3. CAD/CAM Digital Impression & Shade Match

A precise digital scan is taken of your prepared teeth, the gap, and your bite. Sent to our partner lab. Shade carefully matched to your existing teeth.

  4. Permanent Bridge Placement

At the second visit, the permanent bridge is checked for fit, colour, and bite, then bonded permanently using strong dental adhesive. You leave with a fully restored bite and smile.

👉 For chair-side Maryland bridges, the entire process is done in one visit — ideal when you need immediate cosmetic coverage during implant healing.

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions our Bangalore patients ask most often about dental bridges. If yours is not here, WhatsApp us — we are happy to explain anything in detail.

  • What is a dental bridge?
A dental bridge is a fixed prosthetic that replaces one or more missing teeth by anchoring artificial teeth (called pontics) to crowns placed on the natural teeth on either side of the gap. The result looks, feels, and functions like natural teeth — and unlike dentures, it does not come out.
  • How long does a dental bridge last?
With proper care, modern dental bridges typically last 10-20 years. Premium materials like Zirconia and DMLS often last longer than PFM. Maryland bridges, being smaller and less invasive, typically last 5-10 years and are best suited as interim solutions.
  • How much does a dental bridge cost?
Standard bridge cost is calculated as the number of teeth in the bridge multiplied by the single crown cost. For example, a 3-unit bridge (1 missing tooth + 2 anchor crowns) at our PFM rate is 3 × ₹5,000 = ₹15,000. For Maryland bridges, we offer chair-side composite from ₹8,000 and lab-fabricated Zirconia from ₹12,000.
  • Is a dental bridge better than a dental implant?
It depends on your case. Implants are generally the gold standard for replacing missing teeth — they preserve jawbone and do not require shaping adjacent healthy teeth. However, bridges are more affordable, faster (2 visits vs 4-6 months for implants), and ideal when adjacent teeth already need crowns or when implants are not viable due to bone loss.
  • What is a Maryland bridge and when is it used?
A Maryland bridge is a conservative type of bridge that is bonded to the back of adjacent teeth with thin wings — no tooth shaping required. It is most commonly used as an interim solution to fill a visible gap while waiting for a dental implant to integrate (typically 3-6 months). At The Smile Edit, we offer two Maryland options: chair-side composite from ₹8,000 (immediate, same-visit) and lab-fabricated Zirconia from ₹12,000 (more durable).
  • Can I get a temporary bridge while my dental implant heals?
Yes, this is exactly what Maryland bridges are designed for at our clinic. After implant placement, the implant takes 3-6 months to integrate with your jawbone before a permanent crown can be placed. A Maryland bridge fills the visible gap during this period — so you never have to walk around with a missing tooth.
  • Is getting a dental bridge painful?
No. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, so you will not feel pain during tooth shaping or fitting. Maryland bridges require no tooth shaping at all and are virtually painless. Most patients report mild sensitivity for a day or two after standard bridge placement.
  • How many visits are needed for a dental bridge?
For a standard bridge: typically 2 visits over 1-2 weeks (preparation + fitting). For a chair-side Maryland bridge: 1 visit. For a lab-fabricated Maryland bridge: 2 visits.
  • How do I clean and care for a dental bridge?
Brush twice daily as normal. Use a special floss (called a floss threader or super floss) or interdental brushes to clean under the pontic — this is the most important step. Routine 6-monthly dental check-ups and cleanings keep the supporting teeth and gums healthy.
  • What if my bridge breaks years later?
Our standard bridges (PFM, DMLS, Zirconia) come with the same Pan-India warranty as our dental crowns. If damaged during the warranty period, you can get replacement done at most of the reputed dental clinics in the country — almost free of cost. You only pay minimal scanning and fitting fees at the other clinic.
